What are apprenticeships?

 

Modern Apprenticeships offer high quality training for jobs across a wide range of industries. Potential apprentices (of any age) need to get a job before they can take part in these training programmes.

All training is provided free of charge. Apprenticeships normally last between one and four years and there are two levels – the Foundation Modern Apprenticeship at level 2 and the Modern Apprenticeship at level 3; both include a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ), Key Skills qualifications and a technical certificate.

Apprenticeship programmes are part funded by the Welsh Assembly and the European Social Fund.

 
Apprenticeships at the DRB Group

 

At DRB, we offer Foundation Modern Apprenticeships in Engineering in conjunction with Deeside College.

The Foundation Modern Apprenticeship programme and includes the following:

  • A day release course at Deeside College for two years leading to a technical certificate such as the City and Guilds (CGLI) 6983 Applying Engineering Principles at level 2 and a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) in Performing Engineering Operations (PEO) at level 2.
  • A portfolio of evidence will be required to help you gain Key Skills qualifications in Application of Number, Communication Skills and Information & Communication Technology (ICT) at level 1 and Working with Others,  Improving Own Learning & Performance at level 2. 
  • Training and assessment in the workplace, which will help you achieve the above qualifications.
  • You will also have to complete an Employment Rights and Responsibilities workbook.

Throughout your apprenticeship programme, you will gain a very high standard of training and support from both DRB and Deeside College.  At DRB, you will be supported by your line manager and General Manager (Keith Vivian).  Deeside College’s Training Programmes Officer, Assessor and Course Tutors will help you develop the skills, experience and qualifications to achieve your apprenticeship.
