DRB support ‘Hilbre Flyers’ in car racing project

DRB support local high school car racing team in the Greenpower North West regional heat

Greenpower Educational Trust is dedicated to inspiring young people to become engineers. They organise a wide range of engineering projects and events, and work with over 500 schools throughout the UK. Their goal is to offer a series of practical challenges that will introduce young people to all of the great opportunities that are available from a career in engineering.  One of these challenges requires students to work with their teachers and an industry mentor to design, build and then race an electric car.

Hilbre High School on the Wirral entered a team, called the ‘Hilbre Flyers’, in the North West regional heat that was held at Aintree Race Circuit on the 13th September 2012. They contacted DRB for help with supplying some of the engineering parts for the vehicle, and we were happy to help.

The Hilbre team successfully drove 70.8 miles in four hours but unfortunately missed out on going to the national final by 1 lap. The team are currently developing 2 new cars for next season and are hoping to make it to the final this time.
