Recognition of DRB's young engineers

DRB has a tradition of supporting the development of new engineers.

Every year DRB offers a number of engineering apprenticeships. We have started 4 new apprentices in 2010 taking the total number to 9 (a record number for DRB) and covering a range of disciplines. In recent years we have also started to sponsor some of our engineers to continue studying after completion of their apprenticeship with two currently studying for mechanical engineering degrees. A number of these apprentices have received external recognition of their commitment and skills this year by Deeside College, Glyndwr University and Welder Wales.

A further development this year has been the first of what we hope will be many, apprentice exchange visits between DRB  and our customers. In September, 4 apprentices from EON spent the day working with our electrical team learning about how to rewind and repair electric motors.  We are just finalising arrangement for 2 of our apprentices to make a reciprocal visit to spend a day working with EON. We believe this type of co-operation helps to develop more rounded engineers and we will be looking to do more of this in future. If anyone wants to discuss the possibility of engineering exchange visits between DRB and your company please contact Peter Holden.
